Mirrored closet doors that slide smoothly again
Mirrored sliding closet doors are a fixture of Kingston apartments and rental bedrooms, and most of what goes wrong is small: a worn roller, a cracked floor guide, a kinked track, or one panel broken in a move. Those are parts; a new set is needed only when frames are bent. We connect landlords, tenants and owners with independent local professionals who repair closet doors, one of the services we match, and they quote what's actually needed.
- Rollers and tracks before new doors
- Single mirror panels replaced
- Several units in one request

Off the track
When a door drags, sticks or drops out: rollers, guides and tracks
A bypass door runs on rollers in a track, kept in line by a floor guide. Each part wears, and each is replaceable.
If a door has come out, lift it back only if it moves easily. Forcing a heavy mirror door can crack the panel.
Worn or broken rollers
A door that grinds or drops at one corner has a flat or cracked roller, matched or replaced as a set.
A missing floor guide
Without it, the doors swing out at the bottom and jump the track. A small part and a quick fix.
A bent track
Kinked by a door forced back in. It's straightened or a new length is cut.
Doors out of adjustment
Screws at the rollers level each door. After a move, that can be all it needs.
Mirror panels
A cracked or spotted panel, without a new door
The mirror in most closet doors is a separate panel in a metal frame. When it cracks, or shows dark spots where the silver backing is failing, a new panel is cut to the same size and the frame, rollers and track stay.
If the frame is bent or corroded, or the door is an odd size, a new door may be simpler; the pro will say which. Whoever cuts the panel can often handle other custom mirrors in the unit on the same visit.
Safety backing
What safety backing does on a mirrored door
A closet mirror is a large sheet of glass at body height, in rooms where furniture moves and children play.
What it is
A plastic film bonded to the back of the mirror. If the mirror breaks, it holds most pieces in place.
When to ask for it
It's good practice on any closet mirror, so ask for it whenever a panel is replaced. Some doors use tempered mirror instead; the pro will say which yours take.
New doors
When a whole new set of doors makes sense
A full set is worth it when frames are bent, the track is past saving, or you want a change: mirror to frosted glass, bypass to bifold, or a new frame finish. New doors are made to the opening, measured at the top and bottom and at both sides.
Bifolds open almost the full width of a narrow closet; bypass doors stay in the opening but show half the closet at a time.
What affects the quote
Roller, panel or full set: what drives the quote
- Hardware only, a mirror panel, or new doors
- Door height and width, and how many doors
- Roller and track type, and whether parts are still made
- Mirror thickness, safety backing and any bevel
- Bifold or bypass, and the frame finish on new doors
- How many units are done on one visit
Send a photo of the door and the bottom track, and the door height.
Rentals
Between tenants: closet doors at turnover
With so many Kingston households renting, and many leases around the University District following the academic year, closet doors see a lot of move-outs.
If you manage several units, list the doors unit by unit with a photo of each bottom track and send one request, so the pro can bring parts for all of them. The landlord and property manager page explains batch requests, and the rental turnover checklist covers the other glass and window screen checks. Tenants: tell your landlord before booking anything.
